    Plain English summary: Farebones does not collect, store, or sell your personal data. We don't know who you are. The only data we collect is anonymised analytics through Google Analytics so we can see how many people use the site and which features they use. That's it.
  

1. Who this policy covers

This privacy policy covers farebones.com and its subpages, operated by Apurv Gedam (Toronto, Ontario, Canada). It applies to all visitors regardless of location, including those in the European Economic Area (GDPR), the United Kingdom (UK GDPR), and Canada (PIPEDA).

2. What we collect — and what we don't

Here is a complete picture of what data Farebones touches:

3. Why we collect analytics

We use Google Analytics (GA4) with anonymised data to understand:

How many people use Farebones
Which features are most used (calculator vs quiz)
What devices and countries visitors come from (in aggregate)
How people find the site (search, social, direct)

This helps us improve the product. We cannot identify individual users from this data.

4. Google Analytics and cookies

Farebones uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4). Google Analytics sets cookies on your browser to track anonymised usage patterns. Your IP address is anonymised by Google before being stored.

You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by:

Installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on
Using a browser with tracking protection (Firefox, Brave, Safari with ITP)
Enabling "Do Not Track" in your browser settings

Google's data processing is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

5. How your search queries are processed

When you search for a destination, your query is sent securely to Anthropic's Claude API to generate the budget estimate. This means:

Your query passes through Anthropic's servers
Anthropic does not use API queries to train its models by default (see Anthropic's Privacy Policy)
We do not log, store, or retain your search queries on our end
No personal information is attached to your query — it is anonymous

7. Your rights

Depending on where you are, you may have rights regarding your personal data. Since Farebones collects no personal data about you, there is nothing to access, correct, or delete on our end. However:

EU/UK (GDPR): You have the right to object to processing and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
Canada (PIPEDA): You have the right to request access to personal information held about you
California (CCPA): We do not sell personal data. There is nothing to opt out of.

8. Data retention

We retain no personal data. Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months (Google's default), after which it is automatically deleted. Netlify server logs are retained for a short period per their standard policy and are not accessible to us in individually identifiable form.

9. Children's privacy

Farebones is family-friendly and suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect any data from children under 13. Since we collect no personal data at all, no special handling is required.

10. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated if we add new features that affect data collection. The "Last updated" date will reflect any changes. Continued use of Farebones after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
